Casual Jeweler is the place for everyone to learn more about purchasing, caring for and enjoying their fine jewelry in a completely relaxed and “casual” way. There are many times we have questions or are curious about fine jewelry, but finding an environment to learn more can sometimes be intimidating. We are here to go “behind the counter” and share with everyone the knowledge that you need to be an informed consumer.
There are three main ways I hope to connect with you on this blog. The first will by my Jewelry 101 posts. These will be relatively quick reads focused on care and maintenance, building your collection and building your jewelry knowledge through education. Casual Conversations will be a fun section for sharing anecdotes and stories both from readers and my own experiences. Here is where we will also post interviews, jewelry industry current events or products we are excited about. Lastly Gems of Knowledge is our opportunity delve into the more technical and historical aspects of the jewelry industry. Have you ever wondered how diamonds are formed or how gold is alloyed? Maybe you want to know where the 4C’s came from or some of the history of important jewels like the Hope Diamond. These and many topics of interest to our readers will be covered.
Jewelry becomes a recognizable part of our lives at a very early age. Babies try to grab mommy’s earring and many parents have experienced broken chains and necklaces after tugs from tiny hands. As children we were attracted by something shiny, and as adults that feeling often doesn’t fade. Yet there’s something daunting in the ownership of fine jewelry. We ask ourselves, “Is it worth spending this much?” “What if I lose it?” “What if it breaks?” “What if I end up not wearing it?” At times, these worries can overshadow our enjoyment of something that was created to bring just that, JOY!
This is where I come in. Like many of you, I’ve been in love with jewelry and gemstones for many years. Shortly after college, I started taking jewelry classes through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and working part-time in jewelry stores. I found jewelry to be unique among industries in that the products are not only beautiful, but also very technical to produce. The path that each component of a ring travels before it comes together to rest on your finger is complex and in many ways surprising. My goal is to provide you with insight into this fascinating industry and help you to be more comfortable with caring for an growing your collection.
Content on Casual Jeweler will fall into the three main categories detailed above. You will be able to read blog posts sequentially or read posts within one category as well by clicking on the specific area of interest. We want to use a variety of methods to connect with our readers. There will be Standard posts with text and pictures, YouTube vlog posts as well as Soundcloud audio posts. From our Home Page you will be able to hover over Post Types and view all of the video or audio posts if you like. We will pull together interview posts and guests posts, along with reviews of things that we love.
The goal is for Casual Jeweler to be your go to source for everyday jewelry questions as well as interesting and varied content related to jewelry. Please join our email list to be notified of new blog posts and follow us on social media for updates.
